#DRIFFDriveIn. Shifting the Narrative is a Canadian showcase that pairs three acclaimed feature films with short films by emerging directors.
Short Film - 'This Ink Runs Deep' by Asia Youngman (16 minutes):
This Ink Runs Deep features indigenous tattoo artists from across Canada who are reviving ancestral traditions that disappeared during colonization. Through the film, we learn about the practices that were thought to be lost forever, and how their revival reflects a reawakening of indigenous identity.
Feature Presentation - 'Beans' by Tracey Deer (92 minutes):
Inspired by true events, 'Beans' is about a Mohawk girl on the cusp of adolescence who must grow up fast and become her own kind of warrior during the armed stand-off known as the 1990 Oka Crisis.
DRIFF acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the Town of Whitby.
Location : 575 Rossland Rd. E., Whitby, in the parking lot behind the municipal building
