#DRIFFDriveIn. Shifting the Narrative is a Canadian showcase that pairs three acclaimed feature films with short films by emerging directors.
Short Film - 'We Went Out' by Ian Kamau (12 minutes):
'We Went Out' highlights the lived experience of Black and racialized youth of Toronto's hip hop community in the 90’s and 00’s and pays homage to the people who became adults in those in-between spaces: sidewalks, stairwells and benches.

Feature Presentation - 'Akilla's Escape' by Charles Officer (90 minutes):
In a crime-noir about the urban child-soldier, Akilla Brown (played by Saul Williams) captures a fifteen-year-old Jamaican boy in the aftermath of an armed robbery. Over one gruelling night, Akilla confronts a cycle of generational violence he thought he escaped.
DRIFF acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the Town of Whitby.
